About Henchu

Named after the Kannada word for traditional cooking surfaces, Henchu brings mothers' cherished recipes to life with love, memory, and care.

Our name and where we began

Henchu is the Kannada word for the traditional cooking surface where meals were made for generations. It is where amma stood and where ajji rolled her rotis, where a family's recipes lived before anyone wrote them down. We chose this name because every dish we cook starts there. Henchu was founded by Gayathri Mruthyunjaya in Malleshwaram, Bengaluru. We are a women-led home kitchen, more than sixty per cent woman-owned, rooted in the belief that the food mothers make at home is the best food in Karnataka.

Our mothers

A different mum cooks at Henchu each day. She brings her own recipes, the ones her family already loves, the ones her neighbours ask for. When she cooks for you, her name goes on the dish. That is the whole idea. Every mother who joins our kitchen brings something only she can make, a pickle, a sambar, a thindi her grandmother taught her. We do not blend their cooking into a single house style. We keep each mother's hand in the food she prepares, because that is what makes it hers.

What we do

From one kitchen in Malleshwaram we run four things. A daily home kitchen serving fresh meals every day. Catering for events, parties and corporate gatherings across Bengaluru. A growing range of packaged products, from spice blends to pickles, made by our mothers. And GM Rejoyz, our venue space for intimate gatherings, workshops and pop-ups. Everything comes from the same kitchen, the same mothers, the same recipes that were cooked at home long before they reached you.
